For 49 Hours:
Give, Share and Celebrate!
Meet Sheri Buretta:
Regent Sheri Buretta was born in Anchorage. Her family is from the village of Tatitlek located in Prince William Sound. She holds an associate degree in accounting from UAA and an associate degree in business from Gulf Coast Community College in Florida. Regent Buretta has served as a UA Regent from 2015 to 2023 and has chaired the board since March 2020.
Sheri has a heart and passion for kids in need in Alaska and wants them to have a support system. She wanted to support a scholarship for students in need, because she remembers her school (in Nunaka Valley) as such a "safe haven" for her. She wants to be able to provide students with the tools to answer the question, "What can I do to change my reality or circumstances?"
Sheri wants to help both young people and adults change their situation and would like to "ignite" this empowering spirit for people. With their effort and the support of others (such as through scholarships), they can change their situations—personally and economically.
The Sheri Buretta Family Scholarship was recently created at the University of Alaska Anchorage to provide financial assistance to students at UAA who demonstrate financial need and are Alaska residents.
It is our intent to endow the Sheri Buretta Family scholarship and make it available to assist UAA students for generations to come. To endow a scholarship at UAA, we need to raise at least $25,000!
Chancellor Parnell and his wife, Sandy Parnell, are committed to raising the funds to endow this scholarship. They want to kickstart this fundraising campaign and are giving $2,000 to the scholarship on Giving Day!
