The Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program’s (ANSEP) objective is to effect systemic change in the hiring patterns of Alaska Natives in science and engineering by placing our students on a career path to leadership.
What started in 1995 as a scholarship program for university students has evolved into a longitudinal education model. Beginning in sixth grade and continuing through high school, students transition into science and engineering undergraduate and graduate degree programs guiding them all the way through to their Ph.D.
We seek to ensure students at every level are successful at rates far exceeding state and national numbers, improve academic outcomes and eliminate the need for university remediation and associated costs for government and families.
ANSEP has nearly 3,000 Alaska Native middle school, high school and university students, as well as ANSEP alumni. We provide inspiration, guidance and opportunity for students from over 100 Alaska communities and have graduated more than 400 Alaska Native scientists and engineers through the University of Alaska.
